Case List Construction Course including oral technique (1 -day)

The following 1-day seminars emphasize case list construction, oral exam technique and how to prepare, focus, and study for the exam. If you find this day valuable, you will (as do most of our candidates) want to come back for one of our multi day courses. The first day of these longer courses is very similar to the first day that you will already have attended. You may choose to re-attend the first day as a refresher or merely come to the balance of the days from day 2 onwards. The choice is yours. We strongly advise you to attend a 1-day course as early in the year as possible (to get most benefit while still collecting cases and constructing your case list).

This course caters specifically to those candidates who do not feel comfortable about their oral exam taking skills. The course comprises the last 3 days of our 5-day seminar. It provides tremendous exposure in both group and private mock oral settings. In addition, you receive indispensable insights into mock oral exam technique as well as how to handle the 'case of the day' portion of the exam. Furthermore, critical high yield questions are reviewed from the 'oral technique' perspective. Registrants of this course receive a free copy of our 'Case of the Day' Manual.

Content of Case List Construction, and Multi-Day Seminars

Case List Construction (and Oral Technique) Course: We begin by eliminating fear of the unknown. We do this by revealing the exam format (and practical issues associated with this). We then move on to showing you how to review your case list, with particular regard to predicting the questions you are most likely to be asked based on what is actually on your case list. In addition, we show you the basics of oral exam technique, and how you can take control of your exam. We also have an opportunity to review concerns that candidates often have regarding their very own case lists.

Day 1: This is virtually identical to the Case List Construction Course above. Since this course is offered AFTER the case list has already been submitted, we no longer discuss case list construction. Instead we go into detail on how to review your case list in preparation for the exam.

Day 2: This day is devoted to reviewing the most commonly asked questions in the exam (which tend to be asked year after year!) This is again designed to give you the most information in the shortest amount of time possible. Our feedback from candidates in the exam has consistently shown this part of our course to be of exceptional value.

Day 3: The third day (which is also the first day of our mock oral course) is devoted entirely to mock orals. We go through multiple 'high yield' clinical scenarios. In doing so, you learn not only the material which is vital, but also how to present it. Some examples include PPH, shoulder dystocia, how to defend a 'low age hysterectomy', a high induction rate, a high CD rate, a low VBAC rate, a high LAVH rate etc. In addition, we conclude with a brief review of histology. This lecture is designed to give you all you need to know with respect to GYN histology, so you won't waste any time on this subject.

Day 4: We spend much of this day going over more mock oral exam techniques and take you through several 'cases of the day', showing you how best to tackle them.

Day 5: This entire day is devoted entirely to private and public mock orals. You will be exposed to multiple public mock oral exams (and have your turn being on the 'hot seat' if you choose). In addition every candidate will have their own private mock oral session.
